Better Front Door

Real project

The Rock Yard Miami

A new website for a stone yard in Miami.

Independent project, built at no charge for friends.

The business

The Rock Yard sells Peruvian beach pebble, local oolite and feather rock, and one-of-a-kind stone pieces from a yard on SW 184th Street in Miami. The grounds also host events.

What I wanted to fix

  • The name was cut off in the header, on desktop and on phones.
  • Nine menu links competed for attention.
  • The address and phone number weren't on the first screen.

What changed and why

  • The full name sits in the header, so people know where they are.
  • On desktop, the address, Google rating and phone run along the top, so people can find the yard and call without scrolling.
  • Five menu links instead of nine.
  • Two clear actions: schedule a showing or request a quote.
  • On phones, a Call button sits in the header.
  • Everything on one page, instead of nine.

What I delivered

  • A one-page site: the stone, the event space, a gallery, who they are, and how to find the yard.
  • One quote form for stone or events.
  • Short videos of the yard.
  • Search basics: page titles, descriptions and business details search engines can read.
